Rachel Critchley came to Leeds from Cheltenham to study food science at university and, after working in the food industry, decided she wanted to start her own business. After owning a Molly Made franchise with 16 staff, she took time off to have a family before venturing back out into the world of business.
With several stints volunteering behind her, she knew she wanted to make a difference and do something more person-centred. That led her to Right at Home, and she took on the North Leeds franchise, which covers Otley and its surrounding areas, in January 2024.
Based at their Horsforth office, the company offers friendly, reliable homecare for people in Otley and the surrounding area – always built around what each person actually wants and needs, rather than a rigid tick-box list.
At the lighter end of support, that might mean an hour of companionship once a week: a cuppa and a catch-up, a bit of help with shopping or appointments, or someone to sit with a loved one so family carers can take a breather.
At the other end of the scale, some clients have carers in all day, with overnight visits available for those who need more regular reassurance or support.
Rachel now leads a team of around 20 carers, from their early 20s through to their 70s, making Right at Home an age-friendly employer with a really broad mix of life experience on the books. That diversity helps them match clients with carers they’ll genuinely click with, whether that’s over hobbies, humour or just a shared love of a good chat.
