Otley Rugby Club is far more than a (rather successful) town sports club, it’s one of the Otley community’s beating heart.
Housed (currently) at Cross Green, this historic club was formed in 1865 and is one of the most distinguished clubs in the country, with the first XV having played at the top of the National Leagues for many years. Aside from hosting Otley, the club’s ground has seen some memorable occasions, including the North’s defeat of the All Blacks in 1979, the North versus Australia in 1988, and Italy versus the USA in the 1991 Rugby World Cup.
With more than 100 adult players and around 250 young boys and girls playing their rugby at Otley, there are also more than 30 RFU-qualified coaches and over 300 full and family members.
As a partner of local schools, colleges, the military and the police, the Otley Rugby Club’s clubhouse is used extensively by local sports clubs and offers sports camps for local children during the Easter and Summer. There are two main rooms in the Clubhouse, one packed with rugby memorabilia, the other with a more ‘neutral’ design. Both can be hired for weddings, funerals and other special events.
