Mistal Kitchen

Alfresco food & drink, Business of the Week, Cafés, pubs & restaurants

The Longfield family have owned Yorkgate Farm on the edge of Otley Chevin Forest Park since the 1800s, with some of the outbuildings being converted into tearooms for walkers in 1993, first known as the Ramblers Tea Rooms, then the Cheerful Chilli.

Now run by Anne Longfield and her husband Richard Reeve, with their son Oli Longfield-Reeve in the kitchen, the cafe was rebranded as Mistal Kitchen in late 2021, taking its name from the traditional name for a cow shed.

The cafe offers vegan/vegetarian food to eat in or take away, including porridge, pies, patties and soup, along with home-made cakes in delightfully converted buildings styled by Anne using many old artefacts from her family’s long history at Yorkgate Farm.

The associated rustic Chilli Barn events venue can be hired for weddings and special occasions. It has its own bar, magnificent views over Wharfedale and space for temporary buildings such as marquees, yurts or teepees.
