Kai Beauty
Otley-born Kai Walkinshaw knew the career path she wanted to follow before she had even graduated from Prince Henry’s Grammar School. For Kai, a career in beauty beckoned, and she began with make-up classes in an effort to break into TV.
Along the way, picking up skills in nails, lashes and skincare led to a slight change in direction, helped along by time spent practising in salons in Menston and Rawdon, where she honed her craft and built the foundations of her approach.
Then in 2024, an opportunity came up to open her own space in the revitalised Ashfield Works, tucked just off Westgate, and Kai Beauty was born.
Set slightly away from the bustle of the high street, the salon has a calm, low-key feel from the moment you walk in. It’s not about squeezing clients in and out or rushing through appointments, but about creating a relaxed environment where people can switch off for a while and feel properly looked after. The airy space, with its high ceilings and thoughtful setup, reflects that approach.
From this base, Kai offers a range of treatments including nails, eye treatments, lash extensions, microneedling, Million Dollar Facials and more — all delivered with a focus on quality, attention to detail and building long-term relationships with her clients rather than quick turnover.
Laser + Light Skin Clinic
Meanwhile, the second floor of Kai Beauty is home to Louise Riches’ Laser + Light Skin Clinic. Louise made the leap from office life in 2025 to retrain in advanced aesthetics, and now offers hair removal and skin rejuvenation treatments using Motus AY, a medical-grade laser system developed by DEKA, designed to deliver high-performance, next-generation results.
Together, the two businesses create a complementary space within Ashfield Works — one that’s quietly building a reputation for high-quality treatments in a setting that feels a world away from the usual high street rush.
