James Ellis

Endure Communications

Business & Trade Services, Business of the Week, Travel & transport

If you run a business in Otley, there’s a fair chance you already know James Ellis of Endure Communications.

He runs the Visit Otley and Buy in Otley communications on behalf of Otley Town Council and Otley BID, as well as advising on the town’s visitor engagement strategy.

And if you’re not a business owner, you may still have spotted him around town – taking photographs, filming social media content, cajoling unsuspecting locals into impromptu dance routines for the annual Christmas video or, back in the Tour de Yorkshire days, getting his hands dirty helping create giant pieces of field art.

But there’s rather more to Endure Communications than shouting “one more take” at people in Otley Market Place.

James has spent more than 20 years working in journalism, communications and content, beginning his career in newspapers and going on to become Travel Editor and Deputy Features Editor of Metro. As a journalist, he has written about travel, health, fitness and lifestyle for titles including The Times, Daily Mail, The Guardian, The Sun and Daily Express.

He left Metro in 2009 to become a freelance journalist and establish his first communications agency, which eventually evolved into Endure Communications in 2018.

Since then, James and the Endure team have worked with businesses and organisations ranging from global brands to independent local companies. Previous clients have included World Travel Market, Virgin Holidays, Citalia, Uber and Renault, with projects spanning PR, copywriting, content strategy, branding, campaigns, social media and media training.

In 2018, James lead the rebranding of a relatively little-known corner of Ireland formerly marketed as Mid Kerry. The resulting Reeks District went on to be named by Rough Guides as one of the world’s top destinations to visit just two years later.

Despite a career that has taken him to and seen him write about more than 90 countries, James remains firmly rooted in Yorkshire – and increasingly enjoys using that experience to help businesses closer to home.

Endure Communications can help with copywriting and website content, press releases and PR, social media, campaign planning, branding, media training and broader communications strategy.

So, if you know your business has a good story but aren’t entirely sure how to tell it, James is always happy to talk it through – preferably over a decent cup of coffee.

James also has a second career as a nutritionist, health coach and personal trainer. Find out more here.
