Earnest Weegmanns
Known as ‘the pork pie people’, this fabulous traditional butchers has been an Otley landmark since opening its doors in 1869.
Exactly 100 years later the Smithson family took over the business and it’s now a real family affair with Richard, his wife Becky and Jess (often a star of the Otley Christmas videos) all to be found behind the counter serving their loyal customers.
The family work hard to keep up the standards set by the original owner W Weegmann, an immigrant from Germany – and the shop continues to win award upon award including recent additions for best burger in Yorkshire and the county’s best black pudding.
The shop is roughly divided into three with produce from local farms in the raw section to the left of the entrance, processed meats and pies to the right and a hot counter – super popular at lunchtimes – offering warm pork pies and sandwiches from hot roast joints.
