AIM Martial Arts

Business of the Week, Sports & Leisure

Tucked away on Crow Lane just behind the Charles Street / Walkergate car park, AIM Martial Arts is one of those places in Otley quietly helping people grow in confidence while many passers-by never realise what’s happening inside.

The academy is run by husband-and-wife team Simon and Alex Clark, who founded the Otley branch and lead a close-knit team of instructors that includes their daughter Jess Clark. Together they’ve built a welcoming environment where martial arts training goes hand in hand with personal development.

One of the best examples of AIM’s community spirit is Natasha Barry, now one of the academy’s senior instructors. Natasha first brought her son along for mixed martial arts classes more than a decade ago. Encouraged by the Clarks to try training herself, she stepped onto the mat — and never looked back. Today she helps guide the next generation of students through the same journey.

Training draws from a wide range of disciplines, including kickboxing strikes such as jabs, crosses and kicks, grappling techniques, and elements of karate, judo and Thai boxing. Students work through a structured belt system while developing important “ninja skills” like discipline, resilience, focus and teamwork.

Classes run from pre-school children as young as two through to adults, while a special SWAT leadership programme helps students assist in classes and develop the skills needed to eventually qualify as instructors.

AIM Martial Arts isn’t just about learning how to fight — it’s about helping people become stronger, more confident versions of themselves.
