Janet Francis has lived in Otley for around twenty years and has spent just as long working as an estate agent. After many years managing branches for large organisations, she took the leap three years ago to set up her own business, The Home Movement, focusing on what she loves most: selling property and guiding buyers and sellers through what can be a truly life-changing transaction.

By working with only a select number of clients at a time, Janet provides a genuinely personal service, offering one-to-one support from beginning to end. Her hard work was quickly recognised — in her very first year she won the Best Newcomer award at the Otley Business Awards — and since then her business has continued to grow through word of mouth and repeat clients.

Supporting the local community is central to Janet’s approach. She helped set up and continues to fundraise for the Let’s Light Up Otley for Christmas campaign and also runs a local book club. Away from work, she enjoys spending time with her family, her Labrador, and her horse.

Voluntary BID membership

Janet was also one of the first home workers to take the opportunity to join Otley BID as a Voluntary Member. Previously, BID membership was only open to businesses paying a mandatory levy, but the new voluntary scheme now allows home-based workers and traders to join.
