Barber & Bennett
When Claire Green gave up her nail salon business to join father Paul taking the family tobacconist Greens of Leeds online, there was a seismic change in the close-knit family business. Online sales began to flourish, further fuelled by lockdown 1.0 back in March 2020.
Less five months later, they took on an old mills building in Otley, totally refurbished it and added wine and spirit merchants Barber & Bennet to their arsenal.
Based at Otley Mills on the edge of town, Barber & Bennet has quickly become an Otley favourite, offering independent wines and spirits to either pick up at the onsite shop (which is becoming quite the shopping destination) or for next day delivery.
The shop stocks a wide range of fine wins and spirits, as well as mixers, glassware and gifts. Choose from well-known favourites such as Gordon’s, Smirnoff and Glenfiddich, or pick up an artisan brand from around the world, many of which originate right here in Yorkshire, including Whitby Gin and Otley’s very own White House Gin.
For those who still love a taste of the family’s original business, part of the store is dedicated to the family’s other keen interest, tobacco and cigarsm under the brand Smoke King, and the onsite humidor has a fine range with products also available for delivery or to buy in store.
